The regulations in Subpart R of the OSHA Construction Industry protect employees from hazards associated with steel erection activities that are part of the construction, alteration, and/or repair of buildings, bridges, and other structures. According to OSHA, these hazards can include working under loads; hoisting, landing and placing decking; column stability; double connections; hoisting, landing and placing steel joists; and falls to lower levels.
